Wild caught Alaskan salmon only has one fishing season per year. In recent years, the catch has not met the market demand, so not only is Alaskan salmon oil difficult to obtain, but the price has spiked. Wild caught Alaskan cod liver oil is the idea alternative or blending accompaniment. The fatty acid and nutrient profile of both species are similar. Cod is much more abundant and enjoys two fishing seasons, therefore the supply is stable, and the pricing is steady. Further, consumers view both cod and salmon as premium seafood.
